Issue Position

I am officially endorsing Oregon Measure 80, which would legalize the use of marijuana by adults in Oregon.

It is time for marijuana prohibition to end. Marijuana prohibition wastes resources, needlessly ruins lives, and is completely ineffective at halting marijuana use. Hundreds of Oregonians smoke marijuana regularly and responsibly, but they are all considered criminals under Oregon law. It's time for society to acknowledge that marijuana use cannot be controlled using the same kind of laws that failed during our nation's misbegotten attempt at alcohol prohibition.

Yes, Measure 80 has some serious flaws. But those issues can be fixed through legislative action or referendum. It is most important now that we vote in favor of marijuana legalization to send a clear message to our elected officials in Oregon and in Washington, DC that it's time to end marijuana prohibition now.
